My relative disappointment with this as well as Sound Unity is leading me to the conclusion that William Parker Quartet is the least essential (though probably most readily accessible) of Parker's ensembles. The stuff here is occasionally quite good - "Purple" and "Rise" in particular - but it's lacking the breadth and fire of his best material in my opinion.
